Abstract

The article examines the peculiarities of the organization of the training process of 10–11 years aged swimmers are engaged in swimming at the stage of preliminary basic training, since this age period is crucial for the development of skills and physical training and requires a specific approach. Materials and methods: analysis of scientific and methodical literature and documentary sources; analysis, synthesis and generalization; comparison, juxtaposition and analogy; pedagogical observations; pedagogical testing; methods of mathematical statistics. General physical fitness was assessed by such indicators as: speed (running 30 m from a high start); explosive power (standing long jump); speed-strength endurance of the muscles of the abdominal press (raising the body in a sitting position in 30 seconds), shoulder girdle strength (flexion-extension of the arms in a lying position, pull-ups); agility (shuttle race 4x9 m); active flexibility of the spine (tilting the body forward from a sitting position, touching the mark of the measuring device with the fingers). Results. Assessment of general physical fitness was carried out using tests that determine various aspects of physical fitness, including speed, explosive power, agility, speed-power endurance of the abdominal muscles, as well as active flexibility of the spine and general endurance, which allowed for a more versatile and complete assessment the effect of the training program on the physical condition of swimmers. Understanding the many factors that influence children’s swimming performance can help to develop appropriate training plans that can promote long-term success later in life, which is a key factor in competitiveness, and should be effectively applied specifically in early age. Conclusions. The results of the initial examination of swimmers, conducted at the ascertainment stage of the pedagogical research, showed that swimmers need to improve their general physical fitness by implementing an experimental program. Based on the observations, it was established that the immediate level of training is reduced, thereby demonstrating an insufficient level of preliminary training as an objective indicator.
